AUSTIN, Texas – WILLIAM HAIRSTON hit the first home run of his St. Edward's career Tuesday as St. Edward's baseball rolled past Texas A&M-International, 11-2.
 
CARSON COX went 3-for-4 with two runs and a RBI with a double. ROMEO CORTINA had three hits in five at-bats with three runs and a double. Hairston finished with two hits, two runs and three RBI. STUART SPRINGER (1-0) earned the win with 3.2 innings of work, surrendering no runs on four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.
 
St. Edward's improves to 4-3. Texas A&M-International drops to 2-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Hilltoppers struck early as Whitacre scored Cortina with a RBI single in the opening frame.
• CARSON COX doubled in the top of the fourth and drove in Cortina to make it 2-0.
• A wild pitch and a RBI single from CHASE FONTANA made it 4-0, Hilltoppers, after four innings of offense.
• Whitacre drove in WILLIAM HAIRSTON in the fifth to make it 5-0.
• Two more runs in the top of the sixth pushed St. Edward's edge to 7-0.
• DEREK THOMPSON doubled in the seventh, scoring Whitacre and Cortina.
• Hairston capped off SEU's scoring with a two-run home run in the top of the eighth.
• A pair of runs for the Dustdevils in the bottom of the eighth made the final tally.

 
HILLTOPPER NOTES

• St. Edward's is 44-9 all-time against Texas A&M-International.
• The Hilltoppers have scored double-digit runs in three straight games.
• Head Coach Rob Penders has not lost to the Dustdevils since the 2013 season.
