ST. GEORGE, Utah –
It was a tale of two games Thursday as St. Edward's split a doubleheader on day two of the Dixie State Easton Classic at Canyon Softball Complex.
St. Edward's (5-4) outslugged Metro State in the first game, beating the Roadrunners, 13-11 in eight innings. The Hilltoppers' bats went cold in game two against Concordia-Irvine as they fell 8-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1 – Metro State)
- The Hilltoppers got on the board first, plating three runs in the first inning. BRITTNEY BRYSON picked up two RBI on a single.
- Metro State answered with three runs in the first inning and five more in the second inning to open up an 8-3 advantage.
- St. Edward's responded with three runs in both the third and fourth innings to take the lead back, 9-8. Bryson picked up two more RBI.
- Single runs in the fifth and seventh put St. Edward's ahead, 11-8.
- The Roadrunners rallied with three runs off of two home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings.
- In the extra frame, MEGAN HOFFMAN and SARA MACHADO produced RBI singles to push SEU ahead, 13-11.
- The Hilltopper defense shut out Metro State in the bottom of the inning to preserve the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2 – Concordia-Irvine)
- BREAH WHITTEN led off the first inning with a single and stole second base.
- Whitten came in to score on a sacrifice fly by SAMI WILLIAMS.
- Concordia-Irvine scored six runs combined in the second and third innings.
- St. Edward's tallied just five hits for the game, as Concordia-Irvine pitching staff was solid.
- The Eagles tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh inning for the final margin.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Bryson finished the day 5-for-8 with four RBI and KAYLA APPLEBY was 5-for-7.
- With the day's opening victory over Metro State, the Hilltoppers ran their winning streak to three games.

"I thought our girls played great both games. Even though the second game did not go our way, the girls were focused and engaged. We just didn't have the bats. We need to swing the bats, limit errors in the field, and get ahead in the count as a pitching staff."
