ST. GEORGE, Utah – The St. Edward's softball team outlasted Montana St. Billings Wednesday in a 12-11 slugfest at Canyon Softball Complex.
In a game that featured eight lead changes, St. Edward's (4-3) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for its first walkoff win of the season. The Hilltoppers have now won two straight games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSU Billings started the scoring in the first inning with two doubles to plate the first run of the game.
- St. Edward's responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. SHELBY JANDA had a two-run home run and KAYLA APPLEBY added a three-run home run.
- The Yellowjackets plated five runs of their own in the third inning on three singles and three walks.
- The Hilltoppers took back the lead in the bottom of the third inning as SARA MACHADO knocked in two runs with her first career hit.
- The lead changed hands four more times as both offenses would not quit.
- MSU Billings loaded the bases in the top of the sixth but St. Edward's got out of the jam.
- After the Yellowjackets scored a run in the top of the seventh, it came down to the Hilltoppers' last at-bat.
- With one out and runners at first and second, pinch hitter BRITTNEY BRYSON singled home one run.
- Bryson bluffed towards second base which drew an errant throw and MEGAN HOFFMAN raced home with the winning run.
