AUSTIN, Texas – St. Edward's baseball tallied nine hits Wednesday, but only plated two runs in its doubleheader loss (2-1, 7-1) to St. Mary's.

TJ GISELBACH went 2-for-3 in game one to lead the Hilltoppers' offense.
ROMEO CORTINA hit his seventh home run of the season in game two, accounting for St. Edward's only run of the game.

On the mound,
STUART SPRINGER threw six innings of brilliant baseball before suffering the tough-luck loss with two runs on three hits.
JOSH GUERRA provided solid relief in game two with no runs on no hits with one walk in game two.

St. Edward's (22-16, 9-8 Heartland) falls to sixth place in the conference standings. St. Mary's (16-19, 9-5 Heartland) moves into fourth place in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One (St. Mary's 2, St. Edward's 1)

- Springer allowed just one Rattler baserunner through the first six innings of play.
- St. Edward's broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the sixth frame with a RBI-single from HUNTER COURSON.
- St. Mary's used a pair of doubles in the seventh frame to take a 2-1 lead.
- The Hilltoppers loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but could not capitalize.

Game Two (St. Mary's 7, St. Edward's 1)
W – Jones (3-4) L – Hill (2-1)
- St. Mary's Jack Kaiser opened the game with a two-run home run to put St. Edward's in a 2-0 hole.
- The Rattlers grabbed three runs in the fourth inning and two more runs in the sixth to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
- Cortina opened the ninth with a solo home run over the scoreboard in left-center field.
- St. Mary's starter, Chris Jones, went the distance with over 120 pitches to clinch the win.
