SAN ANGELO, Texas – The St. Edward's softball team committed four errors in a doubleheader loss Wednesday to No. 1 Angelo State. The RamBelles took advantage, sweeping the two games 5-1, 9-1.
St. Edward's (18-28) has lost four straight games, while Angelo State (46-4) increases its winning streak to 11 games.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1: Angelo State 5, St. Edward's 1)
W-Marlett (23-3), L-Rex (4-12)
- After both teams held each other scoreless in the first inning, Angelo State scored in four straight innings to take control of the game.
- The RamBelles tallied two home runs in the process.
- The St. Edward's defense committed three errors during the four innings that lead to three unearned runs.
- The Hilltoppers got one run back in the sixth inning on a RBI-double by sophomore KAYLA APPLEBY.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2: Angelo State 9, St. Edward's 1) (5)
W-Hill (7-0), L-Burdick (4-6)
- A three-run home run by Angelo State in the first inning had the Hilltoppers trailing early.
- St. Edward's senior MELINA SANCHEZ launched her second home run of the season to get a run back in the second inning.
- The RamBelles scored three unearned runs in the third inning after another costly Hilltopper error to make it 6-1.
- An Angelo State run in the fourth inning, and two more in the fifth, ended the game by run-rule.
HILLTOPPER NOTES
- Freshman KAROLINA RODRIGUEZ went a combined 3-for-5 at the plate.
- Appleby leads the team in RBI with 36.
- St. Edward's is 0-8 against ranked opponents this season.
- Angelo State leads the all-time series, 45-15.
