THE RUNDOWN
SEGUIN, Texas – The St. Edward's University women's tennis team opened its fall season this weekend at the Texas Lutheran Doc Skogman Invitational. The Hilltoppers finished the weekend with 14 wins in singles and seven doubles victories.
PAOLA CARPIO and
LAURA GALVAN led the way in doubles as they teamed up to go 3-0 and win the second bracket. The duo of
VALENTINA MARTINEZ and
MARISSA WILLIAMS also finished with a winning record as they went 2-1 in the top bracket.
In singles action freshman Isabel Young went 3-0 and won her bracket. Carpio,
ELISA GUILLEN, Martinez, and Williams all posted winning records as well. Some matchups were adjusted to prevent players on the same team from facing each other.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Carpio is 35-28 all-time in singles and 16-8 in doubles.
- Galvan won her 45th-career doubles match this weekend.
- Guillen and Martinez each have 30-career doubles victories.
STAT OF THE WEEKEND I
182 – The total number of career singles victories on SEU's current roster with Martinez leading the way at 43-19.
STAT OF THE WEEKEND II
21 – SEU finished the weekend with a total of 21 victories and a winning record at 21-15.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Hilltoppers face Texas State in an exhibition match Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex in San Marcos, Texas before heading to Georgetown Friday and Saturday for the Southwestern Quad at the Henderson Tennis Courts.
