ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Edward's University cheerleading team placed fourth nationally Saturday at the Division II Small Coed Division at the UCA College Cheerleading Nationals at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
Of the 11 teams, six advanced to the final round of competition, and joining St. Edward's was Wilmington, Drury, Kutztown, East Mississippi Community College, and San Francisco State. St. Edward's made program history by hitting a zero deductions routine in the final round of competition, allowing them to place fourth overall in this division.
"Overall, it was a great day of performances for the team," said SEU head coach
Talia Russell. "They were in the right mindset the whole day and achieved the goal of hitting a solid routine in finals."
The Hilltoppers improved from last season's seventh place finish by reaching the finals, and the team will return to campus and resume cheering for the SEU basketball teams for the remainder of the 2018 season.
