THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas –
WILLIAM HAIRSTON registered his first career multiple homerun game Saturday to help the St. Edward's baseball team top St. Mary's 10-9 in extra innings at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Hilltoppers could not pull off the doubleheader sweep however, as they were shutout for the first time this season, 8-0, splitting the first four-game set on the year with the Rattlers, 2-2.

SEU's split vs. STMU makes them 90-152-1 all-time. Hairston (.467) led the team with seven runs, three homers, and four ribbies in the series, while DEREK RAMOS had a productive series at the plate with a .600 batting average (7-for-15) with three RBIs.

Game one was a back-and-forth affair that saw the Hilltoppers (10-7) ahead by three runs on two different occasions. However, after a RBI walk for the Rattlers (12-6), James Davinson followed with a three RBI double that gave them a 7-6 lead in the top of the sixth frame. That's when Hairston began his heroics with a solo shot in the bottom half to tie the game at seven runs, and TJ GISELBACH helped SEU regain the lead 8-7 with a RBI sacrifice fly. STMU kept fighting and forced extra innings with a pair of unearned runs in the seventh and eighth innings, but Hairston struck again with his second long ball of the game to even it up at nine before ROBBIE LAMMONS drove home the winning run with the club's second sacrifice fly of the game. TANNER LAWSON did not get a decision after tossing 5.1 innings where he struck out two and handed out one free pass. JAKE DAVIS (2-1) got the win with two innings thrown and two strikeouts and BLAKE HOLUB pitched 0.2 innings where he recorded one strikeout.

The Rattlers once again avoided the sweep as they handed the Hilltoppers their first shutout of the season, 8-0. STMU built its lead with two three-run innings, highlighted by two solo shots in the sixth. EVAN TUBBS (0-1) was charged with the loss despite putting in work with a new single-game career-high seven strikeouts with one walk in 5.2 innings pitched. CHRIS LOGAN and GARRETT MILLER combined for 0.2 innings on the mound and split two strikeouts evenly, and DANIEL SABATINO also got on the bump for 0.2 innings.

THEY SAID IT
Head Coach Rob Penders on positives from today's doubleheader…
"Obviously, most of those occurred in the first game for us. I mean to come back like we did and fight through a tough extra inning game, that's good things that you want to see. Always, in doubleheaders when you have two good teams, you're going to have a balance sometimes in strikes and as you saw, that one started out a little bit slow and the first team to get ahead kind of takes it and that's what happened in that one. So, its something to learn from for us and something for us to go forward. But hopefully we can correct these double headers and start getting some sweeps as we go down the road."

Penders on if fatigue played a role in the game two setback…
"No, every ball team's tired. You play three games on the weekend. You know, you have to play 4 in 30 hours a lot of times as we go on in conference schedule, so it's not easy for anybody. I wish the schedule wasn't like that, but it is what it is and we have to deal with it just like everybody else in the conference. We have to be better, we've got strong physical guys and we can do it, it's just a matter of mentally being focused."
