FINAL DRAWS
ROME, Ga. – Three of the four St. Edward's student-athletes who participated in last weekend's ITA National Tournament reached the semifinals. The tournament wrapped up on Sunday at the Rome Tennis Center.
ANISH SRINIKETH, who was the No. 3 overall seed in the singles draw, won his opening matchup in three sets. He then rolled past Barry's Alessandro Giuliato in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) during the quarterfinals.
The Katy native faced top-seeded Alvaro Regalado, of Columbus State, in the semifinal round. Regalado won the match 7-5 and 6-4, ending Sriniketh's run.
Meanwhile, freshmen duo
ABHI RAMIREDDY and
JESSE WIKSO lost their semifinal bout in the doubles draw. The pair fell to Regalado and teammate Matei Avram, who were also the No. 1 overall seed, in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).
Ramireddy and Wikso went 4-0 during the regional tournament and then posted a 2-1 record in the national tournament.
Sriniketh and
CHASE BARTLETT dropped their first two doubles matches during the weekend, but rallied win a matchup against Delta State's Hugo Stroppiana and Mason Vice in straight sets (6-2 and 7-6 [8]).
The Hilltoppers have completed their scheduled fall contests and will begin preparations for the dual-match season. St. Edward's will take on the Austin Tennis Academy Dream Team in an exhibition match on Friday, Jan. 24. The first regular-season contest is slated for Jan. 31 against Concordia Texas.
