AUSTIN, Texas - St. Edward's junior
JACOB VASQUEZ went 3-3 from the plate with RBIs and three runs scored as the Hilltoppers took down Drury 5-1 in game one of the four game series Friday.
Drury jumped on the board with a solo home run in the top of the first. After missing out on some opportunities early in the game SEU finally plated their first run as
ROBBIE LAMMONS' bloop single to center drove home Vasquez in the fourth.
After sensational plays at third base defensively to keep the Panthers at just one run, Vasquez sent the first pitch he saw over the left field fence for a three-run shot, putting the Hilltoppers up 4-1 through six.
Vasquez scored again on a tough infield single by
JACOB JOHNSON in the eighth and
KOEHLER VANDAMENT handled the rest on the mound to secure the save.
BLAKE HOLUB earned the win with an outstanding start, allowing just one run on three hits with nine strikeouts in three innings of work.
The Hilltoppers return to the field on Saturday for a double header against Drury beginning at noon.
