Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – Doubles losses once again cost the Hilltoppers as the Men's Tennis team fell 5-2 to Tyler Junior College Friday afternoon.
SEU fell behind early, dropping all doubles matches. LUIS DIAZ and ANISH SRINIKETH came the closest to the win, falling 6-4 in #1 doubles. CHASE MOREHOUSE/NICO MERCADO (#2) and MATEUS DE COL/LOGAN BUIGNET (#3) both lost 6-2.
As singles play got underway, the Hilltoppers trailed 0-1. Buignet dropped his #3 singles matchup 6-2, 6-1 to Simkiss while Mercado went down 6-3, 6-1 at the #5 slot to put St. Edward's in a 3-0 hole early. GABRIEL ZUNIGA got one back, defeating Mosterd 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in #4 singles. Diaz was narrowly defeated in the first set 7-6 (6) and could not recover, dropping the second set 6-4. ANISH SRINIKETH was the only other Hilltopper to secure a win, taking #2 singles 6-4, 4-6, 12-10 over Parker.
SEU falls to 1-3 on the season with the loss. They return home to face Trinity on Saturday at 11 am at the Austin Tennis Academy.
