#24 HILLTOPPERS FALL IN TIGHT BATTLE WITH OUACHITA BAPTIST

Box Score ENNIS, Texas - It may be early in the season but the #24 St. Edward's Men's Tennis team found themselves in the midst of match reminiscent of post-season play as they fell 5-2 to Ouachita Baptist Friday afternoon.

Frigid temperatures and sleet forced the match indoors. SEU fell behind early 1-0, dropping two of three doubles matches. LUIS DIAZ and ANISH SRINIKETH battled through an extended match to eventually emerge victorious, winning 6-5 (9-7) in #1 doubles.

As singles play got underway the tough match continued. MATEUS DE COL won handily at #5 singles over Nair Adi 6-2, 6-3 to even the score 1-1. GABRIEL ZUNIGA was the only other Hilltopper to secure a win despite numerous tight battles throughout singles play. Zuniga won 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-1 in #4 singles.

"It is always rough going indoors when you never play in that environment, but the conditions were even more rough outside and we definitely needed to play," said Head Coach Estevam Strecker. "We were defeated by a better team today. We competed very well and the guys continue to develop the identity of this team as a tough team. There were plenty of opportunities that could have gone our way, but today, OBU was the better team."

The loss drops St. Edward's to 1-1 on the year while Ouachita Baptist moves to 2-0. The Hilltoppers have little rest as they return to play on Saturday, facing the University of West Alabama at noon.
