ST. EDWARD'S EDGED IN 10 INNINGS ON SUNDAY, 8-7

AUSTIN – St. Edward's erased a 7-2 deficit and pulled even with Lubbock Christian in the ninth inning, but the Chaps produced a run in the 10th to claim the series finale, 8-7, on Sunday at Lucian-Hamilton Field.

Lubbock Christian (13-6) built a five-run advantage through the first five frames.

The Hilltoppers (11-10) started to rally in the sixth.

After MATTHEW JIMENEZ drew a one-out walk, ZACH SHEPHERD placed a single into left-center field. ZACH SCHINDLER then stepped to the plate a turned around a 1-0 pitch over the wall in left field and cut the deficit to 7-5.

KOEHLER VANDAMENT pitched a 1-2-3 seventh before handing the ball over to NATHAN MEDRANO, who kept the Chaps from scoring in the eighth and ninth.

BLAKE HOLUB started the bottom of the ninth with a double to right center. JAKE HAHN then worked a base on balls, which forced Lubbock Christian to make a change on the mound. St. Edward's was unable to move the runners around on a sacrifice bunt attempt, but Shepherd came through with a double to left field that sent both Hahn and JAYSON FLORES around to score the tying runs.

Medrano went back to the mound in the 10th for the 'Toppers. He struck out the first batter of the inning, but Chase Whetsel hit a double for LCU. Braden Hayward followed with a double that drove in Whetsel for the go-ahead score.

St. Edward's went in order in the bottom-half of the panel, as Cody Lancaster earned his first save of the year.

Medrano (0-3) took the loss after giving up just the one run over three innings.

The SEU offense produced 11 hits. Five Hilltoppers had two hits on the day, including Schindler who was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs.

St. Edward's will close out its current home stand on Tuesday against Angelo State. The single, nine-inning tilt is slated to start at 2 p.m.
