KINGSVILLE, Texas – Austin De Leon scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead Texas A&M-Kingsville to a 15-14 win over St. Edward's on Tuesday night at Nolan Ryan Field.
The Javelinas (10-4) overcame a 10-0 deficit after the Hilltoppers (10-7) plated 10 runs in the third inning.
Texas A&M-Kingsville scored two runs in the bottom of the third and four in the fourth to trim the lead to four. After St. Edward's picked up a run in the top of the fifth, the Javelinas scored four more in the bottom of the frame to pull within one run.
The Hilltoppers scratched across single tallies in both the sixth and seventh innings, but Texas A&M-Kingsville plated three in the bottom of the seventh to pull even.
CHASE FONTANA's RBI single in the top of the eighth gave St. Edward's a 14-13 lead. The Javelinas scored an unearned run in the bottom-half to tie up the score again.
SEU was unable to push a runner across the plate in the ninth. In the bottom of the frame, Texas A&M-Kingsville had runners on first and second when Seth Spinn was walked intentionally. De Leon then scored on a wild pitch to finish off the contest.
Eric Sandoz received the win after not allowing a run in the final 1.1 panels.
JAYSON FLORES gave up two runs (one earned) over 1.1 innings and was handed the loss.
The Hilltoppers posted 15 hits in the loss.
BLAKE HOLUB and
DYLAN MACKIN had three hits apiece, while Holub and
MATTHEW JIMENEZ both drove in a trio of runs.
St. Edward's will return to Austin to host Lubbock Christian in a four-game, non-conference series this weekend. The set opens at 2 p.m. Friday at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
