HILLTOPPERS DROP SERIES OPENER TO LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN ON FRIDAY

AUSTIN – Lubbock Christian hit four home runs in the first four innings and jumped out to a 9-0 lead en route to a 13-7 victory over St. Edward's in the non-conference series opener on Friday at Lucian-Hamilton Field.

Andrew Pratt hit two homers – a two-run shot in the first inning and a solo round-tripper in the fourth – to pace the Chaps (11-5), who pounded out 16 hits.

Ryan Johnson improved to 5-0 on the mound after holding the Hilltoppers (10-8) to two hits and a run in seven innings of work. The left-hander also fanned seven before handing the ball over to the bullpen.

Johnson kept St. Edward's hitless until JAKE HAHN placed a single into center field with two outs in the fourth inning.

The Hilltoppers fell behind 12-1 before scoring five runs following a two-out error in the eighth.

Hahn grounded a ball to first base and the throw went wide of the base, which allowed ROBBIE LAMMONS to score. MORGAN ALLEN followed with a single that sent both DYLAN MACKIN and Hahn plateward. MATTHEW JIMENEZ then tripled down the right-field line and brought Allen around to score.

St. Edward's picked up one in the frame as ZACH SHEPHERD hit a single through the middle of the infield and drove in Jimenez.

Lubbock Christian tacked on one more run in the top of the ninth to push the advantage to 13-6.

JACOB VASQUEZ produced a run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth, but the Hilltoppers were unable to pick up any other runs.

TYLER BROWN (1-1) suffered the loss after yielding seven runs on five hits in the first two innings.

St. Edward's picked up seven hits, led by Vasquez's 2 for 5 performance that included an RBI.

The two teams will continue the set on Saturday with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
