ARLINGTON – The 29th-ranked St. Edward's men's tennis team captured its second straight Heartland Conference Tournament championship after defeating Newman, 4-0, on Saturday at the Arlington Tennis Center.
The Hilltoppers (19-6) also pushed their winning streak to seven matches following the victory.
St. Edward's earned the doubles point after winning the second and third flights.
LOGAN BUIGNET pushed the advantage to 2-0, as he earned a 6-4, 6-0 triumph at the fifth singles spot.
GABRIEL ZUNIGA also won in straight sets at No. 3 singles to give SEU a 3-0 lead.
LUIS DIAZ then clinched the match with another straight-sets victory at the fifth position.
The Hilltoppers will wait to find out what their NCAA Championship future holds, as the selection show is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m.
