CLEBURNE – Fourth-seeded St. Edward's outlasted No. 3 seed UAFS in 11 innings, 10-7, in an elimination game of the Heartland Conference Championship at The Depot at Cleburne Station. The contest started on Friday night and then included a 17-hour, 15-minute weather delay. The contest concluded at 4:15 p.m. Saturday.
The Hilltoppers advance to the championship round to play No. 2 seed Rogers State. The first game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday. A second contest will be played following a win by St. Edward's. The second game would take place on Sunday.
The Hilltoppers broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the 11th by scoring four runs.
RYAN MCPHAIL pushed across the go-ahead run on a double down the right-field line, plating
TY MARKEE, who led off the frame with a double.
BLAKE HOLUB then drove in two on a double to the right-center field gap.
ZACH SHEPHERD had a hit through the right side of the infield that allowed Holub to score.
BRANDON PETTINATI picked up the win on the mound, as the right-hander allowed one run in 3.1 innings of relief. Pettinati also struck out three and allowed one hit and hit a batter.
