St. Edward's sweeps conference superlative honors


WACO – St. Edward's swept all four individual superlative awards and a total of six Hilltoppers were named to the All-Heartland Conference teams, the league office announced in a press release on Monday.

CHASE BARTLETT was named Heartland Player of the Year following a vote of the league's coaches. Bartlett, who also captured first-team all-conference accolades, advanced to the ITA Oracle National Championships during the fall season. He is currently ranked 40th in the nation among singles players. The Frisco native has amassed a 12-7 record in singles competition this season, including a 3-0 mark at the top spot during the dual-match campaign. Bartlett is also 12-6 overall on the doubles courts, including a 7-3 record with teammate ANISH SRINIKETH. The duo also are ranked 34th in last week's national doubles poll.

Sriniketh was tabbed Heartland Freshman of the Year. He also earned a spot on the first team. The Katy product owns a team-best 19-8 mark and is ranked 22nd in the national singles poll. He has amassed an 11-3 record at the top singles spot, while also posting a 15-10 record on the doubles courts.

LOGAN BUIGNET earned first-team honors and was selected as the league's Outstanding Senior of the Year. The Paris, France, native is 16-5 in singles action this season, including a 14-5 mark this spring. He owns a five-match winning streak on the singles courts and has posted a pair of wins in doubles competition.

Meanwhile, Estevam Strecker was named Heartland Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. He has guided the 'Toppers to back-to-back regular season and conference tournament championships. St. Edward's is currently ranked 31st in the nation and owns a 19-6 record this spring.

Additionally, GABRIEL ZUNIGA collected first-team honors, while NICO MERCADO and ZAC ROBINSON were second-team all-league picks.

Zuniga, a sophomore from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, is second on the team with an 18-5 singles record. He owns a five-match winning streak and has added a trio of victories on the doubles courts.

Mercado is currently 11-4 in singles competition, including a 9-2 ledger this spring. The Edinburg product has tallied a 16-7 record in doubles action, with 13 of the victories taking place this spring.

Robinson has earned most of his success this season on the doubles courts. He is 15-4 with three different doubles partners during the year. He and Mercado are 11-3 this spring, including a perfect 7-0 record at the second position. The Irymple, Australia, native also has accumulated two wins in three decision in singles play.

St. Edward's will learn its next opponent and destination on Tuesday night during the NCAA Division II Championship selection show. The show will stream on the NCAA's website at 7 p.m. (CT).
