ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Edward's cheer team placed 9th in the DII Small Coed division at the UCA College Cheerleading National Championship, which took place Saturday at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex.
The Hilltoppers hit a zero deduction routine while competing against 15 other schools. A zero deduction routine is one without stunt fails, touch downs or bobbles. It marked the second time in program history to achieve a zero deduction routine.
"Putting on a zero deduction routine is extremely impress," SEU head coach Talia Russell said. "After countless hours of practice and the bruises, sweat and tears, I wouldn't expect anything less from this team. I'm excited to see this young and eager team grow in the years to come."
The team will return to Austin on Monday and begin prepping for the remainder of basketball season and Homecoming and Family Weekend, which is scheduled for Feb. 14-16.
Russell's squad also will hold clinics this spring, while prospective Hilltopper cheerleaders should follow the program on Twitter (@SEUCheer) for upcoming tryout dates.
