ODESSA – TY MARKEE drove in five runs to lead St. Edward's to a 10-4 win over UT Permian Basin in the Lone Star Conference series finale Sunday at Roden Field.
Markee tallied three hits, including two doubles, to pace the Hilltoppers' offensive attack. SEU posted 10 hits in the contest.
HUNTER TORREZ added three knocks, including a double.
St. Edward's (3-7, 3-7 LSC) scored five times in the opening frame, while chasing Falcon starting pitcher Ed O'Bannon III from the contest before he even recorded an out. The Hilltoppers added a run in the second, one in the fifth and one in the sixth to stretch the advantage to 8-0.
UT Permian Basin (3-7, 3-7 LSC) picked up four runs in the seventh to cut the lead in half. However, the 'Toppers scored twice in the eighth on run-scoring singles by Torrez and
ZANE PHELPS, which capped the scoring in the game.
TYLER BROWN earned the win on the mound, as the left-hander gave up four runs on two hits and three walks over 6.1 innings. He also struck out seven and hit one batter.
O'Bannon was saddled with the loss after yielding four runs in the first inning.
St. Edward's will return home to host St. Mary's in a four-game set next weekend.
