CANYON – St. Edward's dropped its third consecutive game, as No. 13 West Texas A&M completed the Lone Star Conference series sweep with a 5-2 victory Sunday at Wilder Park.

The Buffaloes (5-1, 5-1 LSC) broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth with four runs. The Hilltoppers (1-5, 1-5 LSC) managed only one more tally in the top of the following frame.

St. Edward's first run came on TY MARKEE's grounder that turned into a fielder's choice at second base, which allowed JACOB VASQUEZ to score.

West Texas A&M tied up the contest in the bottom of the stanza with a run off a sacrifice fly.

The Buffs then took advantage of an error in the fourth to score four unearned runs and take control of the contest.

BLAKE HOLUB drove in the Hilltoppers' final score on an RBI single in the fifth.

Holub finished with two of St. Edward's six hits on the day. MORGAN ALLEN also was 1 for 3 with two walks, while Vasquez had a double and scored both runs.

Todd Danzeisen (2-0) received the win on the mound, as the southpaw allowed only one earned run over seven innings.

Holub (1-1) was handed the loss after giving up four runs (one earned) in 3.1 innings.

The Hilltoppers will travel to Odessa next weekend to play their first four-game conference series against UT Permian Basin. The set will open at 2 p.m. Friday.
