AUSTIN – St. Edward's was unable to carry momentum from Friday's win into Saturday, as No. 1 Angelo State captured both ends of a doubleheader at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Rams won the first contest 10-2 and then held on for a 6-4 victory in the nightcap.
The loss in the opener for the Hilltoppers (10-11, 10-11 LSC) snapped the squad's six-game winning streak at home.

GAME TWO RECAP
St. Edward's plated two runs in the opening inning of the second game to take an early lead.
After the 'Toppers loaded the bases,
DANTE GUTIERREZ drove in Vasquez on a sacrifice fly to open the scoring. Later in the frame, Markee scored the second run on a wild pitch.
However, Angelo State answered in the top of the following stanza. The Rams had three doubles, including two that drove in runs to tie the game.
Josh Elvir broke a 2-2 tie in the third with a two-run homer. ASU pushed its advantage to 6-2 with two unearned runs in the fifth.
St. Edward's was able to pick up two runs in the bottom of the inning. Vasquez hit a towering homer over the left-field fence to start the frame. The Hilltoppers started the seventh with Markee's leadoff single. However, Holub was jammed on a pitch that turned into a 6-4-3 double play to wipe the basepaths. Carson Childers then recorded the final out to preserve the save.
Josh Barnett (3-0) was able to pick up the win despite giving up four runs on seven hits.
NATHAN MEDRANO (2-1) took the loss on the mound. He surrendered six runs (five earned) on six hits and three walks in 5.2 innings.
