Game Recap: Baseball |

Hilltoppers edged out 11-10 by #21 UT Tyler

AUSTIN - What started as a pitching dual quickly gave way to dominating offensive performances as the Hilltoppers opened their three-game series against #21 UT Tyler Friday. SEU came up just short, falling 11-10.

St. Edward's outhit the Patriots and had the winning run at the plate but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity in the final inning.

Starting pitchers BLAKE HOLUB (SEU) and Austin Schneider (UTT) had control of the game through four, scattering a couple of hits while holding the teams scoreless. UT Tyler struck first in the fifth, taking advantage of Hilltopper errors to score two. SEU responded with three of their own including a homerun from MORGAN ALLEN

The Patriots added four in the sixth to go up three, 6-3, but once again the Hilltoppers would answer with two runs to pull within one.

UTT seemed to pull away with two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth, leading 9-5, but the Hilltoppers came roaring back with three in the eighth to come within one run again.

As the game rolled into the final frame UTT extended their lead just enough with a two-run shot to right field by Jepson. SEU got to work in the bottom half of the inning, starting with back-to-back-to-back singles by DAVIS DREWEK, JAKE HAHN and ZARIAN FORDE to load the bases. Mackin's infield grounder drove home Drewek for the first run of the inning and Hahn scored on CARLO FIGUEROA's grounder. That is as much as the Hilltoppers could manufacture, however, as UTT's Matthew McMillan got the final strikeout to end the run.

TRENT ROSENAUER led at the plate, going 3-5 with three RBIs while Forde was 2-3 with a pair of walks. Allen and Mackin also logged two hits on the afternoon.

St. Edward's falls to 3-1 on the year and the series continues on Saturday with a single game starting at 1 pm.
