AUSTIN – #21 UT Tyler's offense was too potent on day three as the Hilltoppers dropped the third game of the series 8-2 Sunday.
The bats started early unlike in the first two games of the series. UTT put two runs on the board with a two-run homerun to right field by Gochenour in the first. SEU answered with a sacrifice fly by
CHASE COS that brought home
MORGAN ALLEN.
After two scoreless innings, the Patriots unloaded for five runs in the fourth and added one more in the fifth to take a commanding 8-1 lead. The Hilltoppers got one run back in the seventh but were unable to manufacture any more.
Five Hilltoppers logged one hit in the loss with Cos capturing the lone RBI.
JESSE REED suffered the loss, giving up seven runs on four hits in four innings of work.
WESLEY GAFFORD threw well in relief, allowing just one run on one hits with one strikeout in three innings of work and closer Garrett Phillips went two innings, giving up no runs and two hits with three strikeouts.
The Hilltoppers fall to 3-3 on the season and 3-3 in Lone Star Conference play. They return to action on March 5, opening up a three-game road series against UAFS with a doubleheader beginning at 1 pm.
