FORT SMITH, Ark. – St. Edward's hit the road to open a three-game series against Arkansas-Fort Smith, spitting the game on the opening day.
GAME 1: SEU 5 – UAFS 6
Arkansas-Fort Smith took a lead early, posting two runs in the third. A four-run fourth inning put the Hilltoppers up 4-2.
After a few scoreless innings, the Lions got a homerun in the seventh to cut into SEU's lead, 4-3.
DANTE GUTIERREZ's sacrifice fly scored one more in the eighth, putting the Hilltoppers up 5-3.
UAFS then got hot, scoring two in the eighth to tie the game and one in the ninth to secure the win.
CHASE COS went 2-4 with one RBI while
ERIC WORDEN and
CULLEN AINSWORTH went 2-4.
BLAKE HOLUB went six innings in his start, scattering four hits with two unearned runs.
GAME 2: SEU 2 – UAFS 1
It was a pitcher's duel throughout the second game with neither team able to get much offense going until the fourth inning. Both teams plated one run in the fourth but SEU had the last laugh as Cos scored
MORGAN ALLEN for the eventual game winner.
Cos was again outstanding at the plate, going 2-4 with 2 RBI.
JACK GRANACK was impressive on the mound, throwing a complete game win, allowing just one hit with two walks with four strikeouts.
St. Edward's improves to 4-4 on the season and 4-4 in the Lone Star Conference. They close the series against the Lions on Saturday.
