AUSTIN – St. Edward's baseball was back in full effect on Friday, opening the 2021 season in emphatic fashion, winning 15-4 and 12-1 against Eastern New Mexico at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
GAME 1: SEU 15 – ENMU 4
ZARIAN FORDE put the Hilltoppers on the board with a double down the left field line, driving home
CHASE COS who doubled earlier in the inning, putting SEU up 1-0 in the second.
St. Edward's unloaded in the third inning, posting eight runs on four hits, cycling through three Greyhound pitchers while hitting through the entire lineup to lead 9-0 through three.
SEU added one run in the fifth before ENMU finally got on the board, posting two runs in the fifth inning. The Hilltoppers had the answer, however, with a five-run sixth inning, setting the stage for the run rule win.
St. Edward's posted 12 hits and 13 RBIs in the win with
CARLO FIGUEROA leading the way, going 2-2 from the plate with two RBIs and one run scored.
ERIC WORDEN had two hits as well, going 2-3 with two runs.
BLAKE HOLUB was outstanding on the mound, allowing just two runs on three hits with 13 strikeouts in his first appearance on the mound since March 7, 2020.
GAME 2: SEU 12 – ENMU 1
The Hilltopper offense remained hot throughout the entirety of the second game of the double header, scoring in every inning on their way to their second run-rule win of the day.
With a stout offense and solid defense behind him, starting pitcher
JACK GRANACK had a commanding presence on the mound. In six innings of work, Granack allowed just one run on four hits with seven strikeouts.
MORGAN ALLEN posted the first homerun of 2021, launching a three-run shot over the left field fence.
JAKE HAHN was 2-2 in game two with one RBI and one run. In total, 11 Hilltoppers recorded hits in the win.
St. Edward's starts the season at 2-0 overall and 2-0 in Lone Star Conference play. They return to action on Saturday to close the series against Eastern New Mexico (0-2, 0-2). First pitch is set for 1 pm.
