SAN ANTONIO – St. Edward's scored runs early but was unable to finish the job in the ninth, falling 4-3 to St. Mary's Saturday.
SEU quickly got on the board as
MORGAN ALLEN doubled on the second pitch he saw and
BLAKE HOLUB brought him home with a two-out shot to left field to put the Hilltoppers up 2-0.
It took an inning for the Rattlers to respond but they did just that in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs with two outs.
Despite hitting well throughout the rest of the game, SEU could not string together enough hits to push another run across until the ninth inning. St. Mary's was just one better scoring two runs in the seventh to hand the Hilltoppers the loss.
Allen led at the plate, going 3-5 with one RBI and one runs scored while
JAKE HAHN continued his hot weekend, going 2-3 at the plate.
JACK GRANACK suffered the loss on the mound, allowing four runs on just three hits with six strikeouts and four walks.
St. Edward's falls to 5-9 on the year and 5-9 in Lone Star Conference play. They return to action on Sunday, closing the series against the Rattlers at 1 pm.
