Penders earns 500th career win Saturday

AUSTIN - With a 7-2 win over TAMIU, St. Edward's Head Coach Rob Penders earned his 500th career win. In his 15th season, Penders has an overall mark of 500-268 for a .651 win percentage.

After a scoreless first inning the Hilltoppers got hot in the second, unloading for four runs to take a commanding lead. MATTHEW GILES, DAVIS DREWEK, KYLER KERLIN and MORGAN ALLEN all drove in runs in the frame.

The Dust Devils were able to get one run back in the third, but were held scoreless the rest of the way with the exception of a single run in the ninth.

The Hilltoppers continued to press on, scoring two in the sixth and one in the seventh, taking advantage of some wild TAMIU pitching.

Kerlin went 2-3 at the plate, scoring once and driving in one run, while CULLEN AINSWORTH was 2-4 with two runs.

JACK GRANACK earned the win, throwing eight impressive innings where he allowed just one unearned run on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts. ERIC WORDEN finished the game in relief, allowing one run on two hits.

The Hilltoppers improve to 10-15 on the year and 9-14 in Lone Star Conference play. They close the series against Texas A&M International on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1:05 following a brief ceremony to commemorate Coach Penders's achievement.
