Game Recap: Baseball |

Hilltoppers explode for 21 runs in game two of LSC Championship

CANYON, Texas - St. Edward's baseball posted 21 runs on 21 hits in a massive 21-2 routing of West Texas in the second game of the series Saturday in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Championship Saturday.

GAME 1: SEU 3 - WT 16

After a few lightning delays, St. Edward's jumped on the Buffaloes, scoring two runs in the first inning. WT responded with one run in the bottom half of the inning but BLAKE HOLUB's singled through the right side brought in MORGAN ALLEN to get push SEU's lead back to two, 3-1.

Storms came through again, suspending the game until Saturday. Three scoreless innings gave way to an 11-run bottom half of the sixth to give West Texas a commanding lead. The Buffaloes added four in the eighth to make a comeback insurmountable for the Hilltoppers.

Allen had a strong showing at the plate, going 4-4 with two runs in game one. JACK GRANACK suffered the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits with one strikeout.

GAME 2: SEU 21 - WT 2

WT led early with a run in the second inning, but once St. Edward's got rolling the Hilltoppers could not be stopped. SEU posted five runs in the fourth and followed with an impressive ten-run fifth to lead 15-2.

Most teams would feel as if they had the win in the bag but SEU pressed on, scoring five in the seventh and one more for good measure in the eighth while holding the Buffaloes scoreless.

DAVIS DREWEK was huge at the plate, going 4-5 with four runs and five RBIs while KYLER KERLIN also went 4-5 with four runs scored and two RBIs. CHASE COS, BLAKE HOLUB and DYLAN MACKIN added three hits each while the Hilltoppers unloaded for four homeruns in the win.

WESLEY GAFFORD earned the win with seven impressive innings, allowing just two runs, one earned, on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

The Hilltoppers return to action on Sunday for the final game of the series, facing West Texas at 1 pm.
