AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's baseball team seized their first sweep of the season as they defeated UT Permian Basin 15-5 Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons scored early on an RBI double to put up a run in the first. In the bottom of the second, Turner Olsen tied the game at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. In the third inning, the Hilltoppers took a 4-1 lead following a three-run blast by Stacey Bailey.
After the Falcons drove in a run in the top of the fourth, the Hilltoppers scored three more runs to extend their lead to 7-2. A Jake Hahn RBI single and a Cullen Ainsworth RBI triple drove in the runs for the Hilltoppers.
In the fifth, KYLER KERLIN tripled home a run to give SEU an 8-4 lead over UTPB. In the sixth, the Hilltoppers put up five runs off an error and a grand slam courtesy of Turner Olsen.
In the seventh, Josh Graham and Turner Olsen would single home a run each to end the game in seven innings.
Jack Granack earned the win as he gave up just four runs off eight hits while striking out eight batters.
The Hilltoppers are back on the road starting Friday as they face UT Tyler. Friday's first pitch is set for 7 pm.
