TYLER, Texas - The St. Edward's baseball team defeated UT Tyler in game one of their four-game series 6-4 Friday afternoon.
An error in the bottom of the first allowed UT Tyler to score the game's first run. After two scoreless innings, the Hilltoppers tied the game at 1-1 after Davis Drewek stole home.
In the fifth, Stacey Bailey smacked his second grand slam of the season to give the Hilltoppers a 5-1 lead. After a scoreless inning, the Patriots drove home two runs on two RBI singles to bring the score to 5-3.
In the eighth, another RBI single by the Patriots brought the score within one at 5-4. In the ninth, the Hilltoppers added an insurance run on an error to bring the score to 6-4.
Wesley Gafford picked up the win, pitching six ? innings while giving up seven hits and allowing two earned runs. Jayson Flores picked up the seven-out save, giving up just one run on three hits.
SEU is back in action Sunday for a double-header against UT Tyler. First pitch for game one is set for 1 pm, and first pitch for game two is set for 4 pm.
