Hilltoppers take games 2 and 3 against Falcons

AUSTIN, Texas - On Saturday afternoon, the St. Edward's baseball team beat UT Permian Basin in games two and three of their four-game series. The Hilltoppers won game one 6-2 and game two 4-1.

 

Game One: SEU 6, UTPB 2

 

In the bottom of the second, Guilio Monello tied the game up at 1-1 after belting a solo home run. In the third, the Hilltoppers put up three runs to take a 4-1 lead. An error and a two-run single by Josh Graham allowed the Hilltoppers to take the three-run lead. 

 

After a scoreless fourth, the Hilltoppers added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 6-1 lead. 

 

Starting pitcher Luke Short was lights out as he pitched a complete game, giving up just two runs on two hits while striking out 10 batters. 

 

Game Two: SEU 4, UTPB 1 

 

The Hilltoppers struck first taking an early 1-0 lead on a bases-loaded walk to Josh Graham in the first.  

 

The Hilltoppers put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth to give them a 4-1 advantage. An error and two RBI singles by Kyler Kerlin and Jake Hahn helped propel the Hilltoppers over the Falcons in game two of their doubleheader. 

 

BRADY PUTNIK got his first victory on the season, pitching five innings while giving up just one run on four hits. JAYSON FLORES shut the door in the game's final two innings, surrendering just one hit and earning his first save of the season.
