TYLER, Texas - The St. Edward's baseball team lost their series finale to UT Tyler 8-1 to split the series 2-2.
After a scoreless first, the Patriots got the scoring started with a four-run second inning. Aggressive base running and two RBI singles allowed the Patriots to take the early lead.
A Stacey Bailey RBI double in the top of the third allowed Cullen Ainsworth to score the Hilltoppers lone run of the afternoon, bringing the score to 4-1.
In the fifth, the Patriots added two runs on a fielder's choice and an error to extend their lead to 6-1.
In the eighth, the Patriots added two more runs to stretch their lead to 8-1 over the Hilltoppers.
The Patriots pitching staff held the Hilltoppers potent offense to one run on six hits in the series finale.
SEU's pitchers gave up seven earned runs and nine hits in the loss.
St. Edward's baseball is back in action at home this weekend, taking on the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. Friday's first pitch is set for 1 pm.
