AUSTIN, Texas - Saturday afternoon, the St. Edward's baseball team lost both games in their double-header against St. Mary's 18-8 and 6-5.

Game One: STM 18, SEU 8
Â
The Rattlers jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly to center field. In the second, the Rattlers stole home and drove in a run on an RBI double to extend their lead to 3-0.

In the third, the Rattlers put the game out of reach, putting up nine runs in the inning to take a 12-0 lead over the Hilltoppers.Â

In the fourth, the Hilltoppers got on the board following an RBI fielder's choice. Later in the inning, Eric Worden drove home a run on a sacrifice fly bringing the score to 12-2.Â

After a scoreless fifth, the Rattlers drove in six more runs to extend their lead to 18-2. Later in the inning, the Hilltoppers added two runs off of an RBI double and single. Reid Stiefel doubled to left-center, and Carlo Figueroa singled.Â

In the seventh, the Hilltoppers put up four runs following an RBI single, two walks, and a HBP to bring the score to 18-8.

Luke Short picked up the loss giving up five runs on five hits in just over two innings of work.Â

Game Two: STM 6, SEU 5

In a tightly contested extra-innings game, the Hilltoppers scored the first runs of the game, taking an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Two bases-loaded walks allowed the Hilltoppers to take the lead.Â

After a scoreless second, the Rattlers scored three runs in the third to take a 3-2 lead. In the home half of the fourth, the Hilltoppers scored three runs to take a 5-3 lead. Cullen Ainsworth drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, and Stacey Bailey drove in two runs on a single up the middle.Â

In the top of the fifth, the Rattlers drove in two runs to tie the game at 5-5. An RBI single and double allowed the Rattlers to comeback and tie the game.Â

The game would stay tied until the top of the ninth when the Rattlers drove in the go-ahead run on an RBI double. The Hilltoppers were unable to answer in the bottom on the inning. Â

Jayson Flores took the loss, giving up just one run on four hits while striking out four batters in over four innings of work.Â
