AUSTIN, Texas - The St. Edward's baseball team lost their series finale to Texas A&M Kingsville 10-8 to split the series 2-2.
The Javelinas got off to a quick start putting up three runs in the top of the first. A two-run single and a fielder's choice gave the Javelinas the 3-0 lead.
Two home runs in the third extended the Javelinas lead over the Hilltoppers. A two-run homer and a solo homer gave the Javelinas a 6-0 lead. Later in the inning, the Hilltoppers put some runs on the board to pull within two.
Kyler Kerlin drove in two runs on a single down the left-field line. Later in the inning, a double by Chase Cos drove in two more runs, bringing the score to 6-4.
Morgan Allen tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run home run.
In the eighth, the Javelinas broke the tie scoring a run on a balk bringing the score to 7-6.
In the ninth, a three-run home run by the Javelinas extended their lead to 10-6. Later in the inning, TURNER OLSON hit a two-run home run to pull within two, but the next three Hilltoppers were retired, ending their comeback.
Starting pitcher Jack Granack pitched 2 ? innings giving up five earned runs on five hits. Jayson Flores, Austin Essex, and Alejandro Betancourt combined to pitch the final 6 ? innings giving up four runs on five hits while striking out five batters.
SEU will have the week off as they prepare for their final regular-season series at West Texas A&M. First pitch is set for 7 pm on April 29th.
