Cheerleading Holding Tryouts On Friday

Join The Hilltoppers

The St. Edward's Hilltoppers Cheerleading team will hold tryouts on Friday, Sept. 16, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. in the alumni gym. 

Tryout Registration: Please register before attending tryouts.

Tryout information Packet: Please read all the information in the packet and have all  materials memorized (including the band dance) by tryouts! 

1. Please come tryout ready with the correct outfit on. Pictures are attached at the bottom of this document for both males and females. If you do not have a St. Ed's shirt, please wear a plain shirt of one of the correct colors. If you do not have white cheer shoes, please wear neutral colored sneakers. No nails or jewelry. 

2. Be prepared to introduce yourself! (name, current year in school, and stunt position). After each section you will end your tryout with an interview. Attached below are the questions. 

  1. What is your experience with cheerleading? 
  2. Why do you want to cheer at St. Edward's? 
  3. If selected, what characteristics, traits, cheer strengths, etc. do you feel that you would bring to the team? 
  4. Please tell one fun fact about yourself that will be memorable to the staff! 

3. We will practice this Band Dance, please have it memorized. Band Dance with music- this should be performed with spiriting, filler words, etc. in your tryout attire. Link to Band Dance: https://youtu.be/fn9R7eRsl4k 

4. (1) Running AND (1) Standing Tumbling will be done. Even performing a cartwheel (standing) and round offs (running) count as tumbling! Show us what you can do! All tumbling should be done on your own. 

Disclaimer: you will be tested on your tumbling based on what you tryout with. Please only throw tumbling that you definitely have and feel comfortable throwing on dead mat.

5. Three (3) connected Jumps will be performed (variety of jumps preferred) 

Optional: One Additional Jump(s) to Tumbling Pass 

    ? Example: Toe Touch Back Handspring 

6. Stunting! We will break you into stunt groups of four where you will practice basic preps, extensions, libs, twisting skills such as full downs, and straight ride baskets. If you have a special skill you would like to showcase, we would love to hear all about it! 

IMPORTANT NOTES 

1. You will know the result of your tryout no later than Saturday, September 18th at 1:00pm CST. 

2. If you do make the team, you must confirm with Coach Neumon by no later than Sunday, September 18th at 1:00pm CST that you accept and want to join the team. 

3. You must attend a mandatory full team practice Monday, September, 19th from 6-8pm CST in the Alumni Gym. 

4. You will also need to download GroupMe and will be added to our group which will be our team's form of communication. 

5. You will also be sent medical paperwork and a team contract to be filled out and returned. 

6. If you do not make the team, please take a few days to think about your tryout, cheer experience, etc. before reaching out to Coach Neumon. Please know that all decisions are final, but that you are encouraged to try out for the team again in the future.
