Baseball Falls To UT Tyler in Extra Innings

TYLER, Texas—Once again, St. Edward's baseball found itself on the wrong side of a walk-off, falling 12-11 in extra innings against UT Tyler.

The Patriots opened the game with a four-run first inning, scoring the first run on a leadoff walk, a single, a balk, and a wild pitch. Ethan Menard followed the first run with an RBI single to right field, followed by a two-run blast by Ethan Bedgood.

St. Edward's made a big push in the third, opening with four consecutive hits. WESTON SYMES led off with an infield single, and TREVOR SEBEK drove him in with an RBI double to right center. CARLO FIGUEROA followed with a two-run blast down the left-field line. CONNOR COX followed with a double to right field, but the Hilltoppers left him stranded with consecutive outs.

UT Tyler scored those runs back in the fifth with an RBI single from Lane Hutchinson, another run on a wild pitch, and an RBI infield single from Austin Ochoa.

DAVIS DREWEK responded immediately with a leadoff home run in the sixth, followed by a Symes walk and Figeruoa's second two-run homer to left field to bring St. Edward's to within 7-6.

NICK DAVIS came out of the bullpen to start the sixth, replacing starter JAKUB RAYFIELD and surrendered back-to-back singles followed by a Carriere three-run blast. GEORGE HETTRICK replaced Davis and got out of the inning.

In the seventh, St. Edward's exploded for five runs on five hits. DIEGO SOLIS hit a one-out single to right center, advanced on a balk, and scored on a KYLER KERLIN double to left. Drewek and DILLON FLORES followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases, and Symes delivered a two-RBI single.

Sebek followed with a bunt for a single, scoring HUNTER CONNER, then CONNOR COX gave St. Edward's the lead with an RBI single through the left side.

Blake LaBuda tied the game in the eighth with a leadoff home run, then scored the game-winning run in the 10th on a walk-off RBI single from Hutchinson.

Symes went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored for St. Edward's. The top of the lineup went a combined 9-for-18, with Sebek, Figueroa, and Cox each going 3-for-6. Figueroa led the team with four RBI between his two home runs. Symes scored a team-high three runs.

St. Edward's drops to 11-13 with an 11-11 conference record. The Hilltoppers and Patriots will finish the series with a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
