LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock Christian scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat St. Edward's baseball 9-7 in the first game of the four-game series.
LANCE LITTLE returned to the lineup and put St. Edward's on the scoreboard early, driving a 3-2 pitch to deep left-center for a solo blast.
DAVIS DREWEK added to the lead with an RBI double down the right-field line in the third, scoring
TREVOR SEBEK.
Lubbock Christian responded in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of an error and a walk, driving in a run on a sacrifice fly, and then taking the lead on Nate Van Maanen's two-run home run to right center.
The Chaparrals added two more runs the next inning on a Frayner Chavez RBI single and a Carson Ogilvie sac fly, gaining a 5-2 lead.
Drewek sparked the Hilltoppers in the sixth with a leadoff home run.
RYAN FEDDERSEN tied the game a few batters later with a two-RBI single to left field, driving in Little and
DIEGO SOLIS.
Brevin McCool put Lubbock Christian back on top with a two-RBI single to left field in the bottom of the inning, but St. Edward's tied it again in the seventh with an RBI single from Solis and an RBI from Murray to score Davis.
Chavez opened the bottom of the eighth with a walk, and St. Edward's walked three consecutive hitters to surrender the go-ahead run, followed by an RBI single by McCool. The series will continue Saturday with a doubleheader.
