LUBBOCK, Texas—Lubbock Christian scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to split Saturday's doubleheader with an 8-6 win over St. Edward's baseball and take a 2-1 series lead heading into Sunday's finale.
TREVOR SEBEK opened the game with a leadoff home run to right field. However, Lubbock Christian answered with Brevin McCool's two-RBI single to left in the bottom of the inning.
RYAN FEDDERSEN continued his recent productive run with an RBI double in the second, driving in
TY MURRAY to tie the game. At the same time, St. Edward's pitcher
JAKUB RAYFIELD and the Hilltopper defense retired the next nine hitters in order.
DAVIS DREWEK led off the top of the fifth inning with a solo blast to left-center, giving St. Edward's the lead with the first of three home runs that inning.
TY MURRAY extended the lead with a two-run home run to left field, ending Schull's afternoon on the mound.
Rhoades came out of the bullpen for Lubbock Christian, and Feddersen greeted him with his second home run of the day, having hit one in St. Edward's Game 1 win to put St. Edward's up 6-2.
Lubbock Christian responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Jarred Gibson started the scoring run with an RBI single up the middle, and McCool tied the game with a three-run home run to left field.
After Rhoades struck out the side in the sixth, Gibson hit an RBI single to center field, and Van Maanen drew a walk with bases loaded to give Lubbock Christian an 8-6 lead. St. Edward's was retired in order in the seventh.
Feddersen hit 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Murray also had two RBIs. Sebek, Drewek, and
WESTON SYMES also had a hit. St. Edward's drops to 19-22 with a 19-20 conference record. The Hilltoppers will play Lubbock Christian tomorrow to wrap up the series.
