St. Edward's athletics 2023-24 season concludes this weekend with the Lone Star Conference Championships Meet and commencement. As the academic year comes to a close, we recap the season.
During the April 30 Celebration of Champions awards ceremony, St. Edward's athletics proudly announced cheerleader
JAHENNESSY PARRA as the distinguished recipient of the 2023-24 Stacey Copeland Community Service Award.
The Stacey Copeland Community Service Award is named after women's soccer alum Stacey Copeland, who took St. Edward's mission statement to new heights through her community service. Copeland's leadership inspired everyone to "step up our game," as she led by example in organizing opportunities to engage in community service projects that make a difference.
This award was created in her honor to focus on the mission of the Brothers of Holy Cross, which is to educate the heart and mind while promoting themes of service and social justice.
Coaches nominated candidates, and a committee of administrators, sports information staff, and coaches voted on the winner.
"Jahennessy's hours of community service exemplify her deep commitment to making a positive impact beyond the cheerleading mat," St. Edward's Head Cheerleading and STUNT Coach Austin Wilder exclaims. "Her dedication to serving others reflects her altruistic nature and showcases her proactive approach to community engagement. Her infectious and unwavering enthusiasm uplifts those around her, inspiring others to join her efforts."
Parra logged over 3,000 hours of community service in her collegiate career, spending the last two spring breaks in New Orleans to help rebuild houses damaged by hurricanes. She is also part of an organization that works with individuals with disabilities through therapeutic horsemanship.
She improves her community by volunteering at food banks and churches and supporting the homeless by organizing food and clothing drives.
