No. 21 SEU Baseball Drops Two Against No. 1 Angelo State

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 21-ranked St. Edward's baseball team fell short of an opportunity to pick up a road win against top-ranked Angelo State, then dropped the second game of the doubleheader to open the series down a 2-0 hole.

Game 1: Angelo State 5, St. Edward's 4
St. Edward's twice had an opportunity to escape the seventh inning with a double play but were unsuccessful in a 5-4 loss to Angelo State.

TRAVIS CHESTNUT and CONNOR COX opened the game with back-to-back walks that LANCE LITTLE and DIEGO SOLIS turned into RBI for the 2-0 lead.

St. Edward's committed an error with two outs in the second to extend the inning, leading to Austin Beck's RBI single on a bunt to half the Hilltopper lead.

Little drew a walk in the third, and MARCO BARRERA moved him over with a double, setting up Solis's sacrifice fly for St. Edward's third run. Angelo State answered in the bottom of the inning when Jacob Guerrero drew a two-out walk, stole second, and scored on Chase Pendley's RBI single.

Chestnut opened the fifth with a leadoff infield single, stole second, and Cox drove him in with an RBI single through the left side.

Beck tied the game on an RBI single in the sixth, driving in Tayten Tredaway, who hit a leadoff double. St. Edward's starter KOBE JARAMILLO walked Ethan Flodstrom to start the seventh, then exited the game for PARKER TENNILL

After Guerrero stole second, Tennill intentionally walked Brett Smajstrla to put the double play back into effect, and Weston Valasek grounded into a potential one to third, but the Hilltoppers committed an error on the play, allowing Guerrero to score the walk-off run.

Cox hit 2-for-3, and Little went 1-for-3, each notching an RBI and run. Solis had two RBI. Jaramillo struck out four with three walks and seven hits surrendered. Only three of Angelo State's five runs were earned.
