Early Lead Slips Away for No. 18 Hillttoppers at Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. — No. 18 St. Edward's built an early lead and produced 11 hits, but Cameron used a pair of big innings to rally for an 11-10 win over the Hilltoppers in the opening game of a four-game series Thursday at McCord Field.

The Hilltoppers (5-2) set the tone immediately. DYLAN TATE worked a leadoff walk and stole second before CONNOR COX drove a two-run home run to right field in the first inning, giving St. Edward's an early 2-0 advantage.

St. Edward's extended its lead in the second. BOSTON LEE reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on DAWSON STUTZ's RBI single to make it 3-1. The Hilltoppers added two more runs in the fourth when Lee delivered an RBI double, and Stutz followed with a sacrifice fly, pushing the margin to 5-1.

After Cameron got a run back in the first, Hilltopper starter CAMDEN WHITE settled in and held the Aggies in check through five innings. White allowed three runs on five hits while striking out five, helping St. Edward's maintain control.

St. Edward's added another run in the fifth on Nicodemus Ruedas' RBI single to extend the lead to 6-1, but Cameron responded in the sixth. The Aggies scored six runs on four hits, aided by hit batters and a sacrifice fly, to take a 7-6 lead.

The Hilltoppers answered in the seventh. Cox and BEN MERRIMAN drew walks, and JACOB BULCROFT singled to load the bases. Ruedas delivered a two-run double to put St. Edward's back in front, and Lee and KAIN SANCHEZ followed with RBI hits to cap a four-run inning and give the Hilltoppers a 10-7 advantage.

Cameron responded again in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs on four hits to retake the lead at 11-10. A two-run single by Wyatt Cunningham tied the game, and an RBI single later in the inning gave the Aggies the lead for good.

St. Edward's threatened in the ninth when Ruedas doubled down the left field line, but Cameron recorded the final two outs to secure the win.

Ruedas led the Hilltoppers offensively, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two doubles. Lee added two hits, two runs, and an RBI, while Cox finished with two runs scored and two RBIs, highlighted by his first-inning home run.

The Hilltoppers will look to even the series when the teams continue the four-game set Friday in Lawton.
