HOUSTON, Texas — St. Edward's women's indoor track & field continued its upward climb Saturday at the FasTrak Collegiate Indoor Classic, turning in a deep meet highlighted by a school record from freshman
BUSAYO SHOWEMIMO, multiple top-10 finishes, and personal-best performances across the track and in the field.
Showemimo delivered the headline moment in the 200 meters, breaking the St. Edward's indoor school record with a time of 25.56 to place sixth overall in a competitive field. The Hilltoppers added a second top-10 finish in the event as senior
JASMINE COOKE placed ninth with a personal-best time of 25.71, giving St. Edward's two of the meet's top 10 in the one-lap sprint.
EMORY LIMUEL added depth in the event with a time of 26.26.
St. Edward's added more hardware in the middle distances, led by senior
DELANEY LONG, who placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.26, continuing a strong senior season and providing a steady veteran spark for the Hilltopper group.
The Hilltoppers showcased depth in the short sprints as Cooke led the way in the 60-meter prelims, placing 21st with a time of 8.00. Freshmen
ADDISON CERVANTEZ (8.15) and
CADENCE COLICHER (8.19) followed, gaining valuable reps in a deep field.
Two freshmen paced St. Edward's in the 400 meters, where
SARAH-CATHERINE CHAPMAN placed 13th with a time of 1:00.48, followed closely by Limuel in 15th at 1:00.83 as the Hilltoppers continued to build strength in the one-lap events.
St. Edward's also produced a pair of top-eight finishes in the 60-meter hurdles, with
MYOSIA VIRGIN placing seventh in 9.31 and Mary-Kate Havens right behind in eighth with a personal-best time of 9.41.
In the field events, Showemimo added another top-10 performance, placing 10th in the long jump with a mark of 5.16 meters, while
EBBIN MALLORY followed with a jump of 4.97 meters. The Hilltoppers also earned a top-10 finish in the triple jump, as
EVELYN ELLIS placed ninth with a mark of 10.07 meters.
With a school record, multiple top-10 finishes, and several athletes trending upward, the Hilltoppers continue to build momentum as the indoor season moves deeper into the championship phase.
