Hilltoppers Post Top Finishes, School Record at Baylor Meet

| By:
WACO, Texas — St. Edward's turned in one of its most complete performances of the outdoor season at the Clyde Hart Classic, leaning on record-breaking field work and distance strength while continuing to build depth across the sprint group against a Division I-heavy field at Baylor University.

The headline moment came in the long jump, where JAYDEN LOPEZ reset the program standard with a leap of 6.54 meters, finishing 11th in a competitive field and continuing the trend of Hilltoppers rewriting the record book this season. KAYLON KING added a 15th-place finish to give St. Edward's a solid two-athlete showing in the event.

On the track, MASYN VELA continued his breakout freshman campaign with another strong mark in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking 56.11 to place ninth overall in a race loaded with Division I talent. His performance backed up an already strong start to the outdoor season and further cemented his role as a key contributor across events.

The Hilltoppers' distance group once again proved to be a strength. Gabe Hernandez delivered a top-five finish in the steeplechase, placing fifth at 10:20.99 in one of the meet's most grueling races. In the 5,000 meters, St. Edward's placed two runners inside the top 10, with ARLO GONZALES leading the way in fifth at 15:39.05 and JAVIER RAMIREZ finishing eighth at 15:54.01—both competing closely with a field that featured several sub-15:30 performances.

The middle-distance group added depth across multiple events. JAVIER TILLERO led three Hilltoppers in the 1,500 meters with a 4:10.24, followed closely by AJ PENA (4:12.67) and WILLIAM SULENTICH (4:20.33), all navigating a field that saw multiple athletes dip under the four-minute mark. Tillero later doubled back in the 800 meters to place 16th at 1:56.88, with AREEB MAHMOOD (1:59.17) and ARCHIE CHESLER (2:01.49) adding depth in the event.

In the sprints, ISAAC KIM opened his season in the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.92 to place 18th, while TYRIQ WILSON made his 200-meter debut of the outdoor campaign at 22.32. The 400-meter group saw GAVIN ANGUIANO (51.95) and PABLO JIMENEZ PENAGOS (52.12) continue to build consistency as the season progresses.

The Hilltoppers also brought together a 4x400-meter relay unit of Vela, Wilson, Anguiano, and Jimenez Penagos, continuing to develop chemistry in an event that figures to be key later in the season.

Across the board, St. Edward's combined a school record, multiple top-five and top-10 finishes, and strong depth across distance and middle-distance events, continuing to show measurable progress against one of the toughest meets on its schedule.
