Men's Track and Field Closes Outdoor Championships with Relay, Distance Points

CANYON, Texas — The St. Edward's men's track and field team battled through three days against one of the deepest conferences in Division II competition at the 2026 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships in Canyon, highlighted by distance scoring performances from ARLO GONZALES and points in both relay events.

Gonzales paced the Hilltoppers with a sixth-place finish in the 5,000 meters, running 15:13.13 to score three team points against a loaded conference distance field. The sophomore added another scoring finish in the 10,000 meters, placing seventh with a personal-best time of 31:45.35 for two more points.

The Hilltoppers also found success in the relays, with the 4x100-meter team of CRISTIAN MENDOZA, Omar Carmona, JAYDEN LOPEZ, and TYRIQ WILSON taking seventh in 41.88 for two points. The 4x400-meter relay squad of Zain Mahmood, Wilson, Carmona, and Nathan Anguiano added another point with an eighth-place finish in 3:16.95.

Wilson clocked 10.81 in the 100 meters, while HOGAN HEIKKINEN posted a 1:57.93 finish in the 800 meters. WILLIAM SULENTICH ran 4:11.16 in the 1500-meter preliminaries against a deep championship field that featured multiple sub-four-minute performers in the finals.

In the hurdles, MASYN VELA crossed in 15.53 in the 110 hurdles, followed closely by ISAAC KIM at 15.79. JUSTIN LEATHERS led the Hilltoppers in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a 10:27.09 finish, while Gabe Hernandez followed in 10:37.96.

JAYDEN LOPEZ added a 6.54-meter mark in the long jump as St. Edward's continued to stack experience against the conference's top programs.

West Texas A&M narrowly captured the men's conference title over Angelo State in one of the tightest team races of the weekend.
