Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The St. Edward's baseball team dropped a 13-6 decision against UT-San Antonio Tuesday evening at Roadrunner Field.
St. Edward's (17-17) jumped on UT-San Antonio (14-21) early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Colin Elmore (Junior, Dallas, Texas) led off the game with a single up the middle. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Dylan Schuch (Senior, Austin, Texas). Adam Shank (Junior, Sugar Land, Texas) drove him in on a single through the right side of the infield. Will McCaleb (Junior, Houston, Texas) would single home two more runners with two outs to push the Hilltopper lead to 3-0.
UT-San Antonio would get two runs back in the second inning when Hilltoppers walked one, hit a batter and committed a balk before Jake Wood singled home two runners.
The Roadrunners would tie the score in the fourth inning, scoring on a bases-loaded wild pitch.
The Hilltoppers would retake the lead in the top of the fifth, when Schuch walked to lead of the inning. He stole second and came in to score on a double by Daniel Homann (Freshman, The Woodlands, Texas).
UT-San Antonio would score seven runs in their next two times at bat to put the game out of reach.
Shank would pick up two more RBI's in the seventh inning when he singled home two runs.
Stephen Johnson (Sophomore, Boulder, Colo.) suffered the loss for the Hilltoppers, allowing two runs on two walks in the fifth inning.
Matt Sims picked up the victory for the Roadrunners, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out one batter in 1.2 innings of work.
Shank ended the evening, going 3-for-5 with three RBI. Elmore, Schuch, McCaleb and Taylor Johnson (Sophomore, Dripping Springs, Texas) all added two hits each.
St. Edward's will be back in action Friday when they host UT-Permian Basin in a key Heartland Conference series. Friday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m., and a single game will be played on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lucian-Hamilton Field.
