Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The St. Edward's baseball team dropped the series finale against Incarnate Word, 19-1, Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Field.
Incarnate Word starting pitcher Marc Gomez held St. Edward's (17-16) in check during the first three innings, as Incarnate Word (22-12) built a 13-0 lead.
The Hilltoppers finally broke through in the fourth inning when Colin Elmore (Junior, Dallas, Texas) led off with a single. A walk to Joe Pirrozolo (Sophomore, The Woodlands, Texas) put runners at first and second. With two outs, Taylor Johnson (Sophomore, Dripping Springs, Texas) drove home Elmore from third base with a single to center field.
The Hilltoppers could only manage two more hits the rest of the way as the Cardinal pitching staff held St. Edward's in check.
Elmore and Johnson both went 2-for-3 for the afternoon for the Hilltoppers. John Zule and Daniel Qualls each had three hits for Incarnate Word.
St. Edward's will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to take on NCAA Division I foe, UT-San Antonio. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.
