2012 St. Edward's Women's Soccer Action
Box Score LAREDO, Texas – The #3 Hilltoppers fought off a pesky Texas A&M-International squad on Saturday afternoon for a 4-2 victory to remain tied for first place with Dallas Baptist in the Heartland Conference.

St. Edward's (11-1, 5-1 HC) opened the scoring in the 16thminute when the Hilltoppers were awarded with a penalty kick. MEGAN ANDERSON calmly stepped up and drilled in her fifth goal of the season.

St. Edward's kept the pressure own with Anderson tallying a shot just 20 seconds later and the Hilltoppers connecting in the 18th minute when TAYLOR WISEMAN found the back of the net from 20 yards out. LAUREN HELLER picked up the assist on the goal.

TAMU-International (7-3, 4-2 HC) fought back in the 35th minute when Valeria Jaramillo scored from five yards out on an assist from Paige Johnson. The Dustdevils would knot the score, 2-2, in the 39th minute when Johnson scored a goal of her own.

With time running out in the opening half, MIKAYLA ENGEL would score from five yards out with eight seconds on the clock. KELLY DAVIS would pick up the assist and the Hilltoppers would go into the break with a 3-2 lead.

In the second half, Heller would score her team-leading 10th goal of the season from 10 yards out in the 59th minute to put the game out of reach. The defense would take over, as they did not allow a single shot the rest of the way.

“The team made an amazing effort in Laredo at the end of a five-game road trip,” head coach Nick Cowell said. “The players are starting to peak at the right time of the season. It will be good to play at home next week.”

St. Edward's outshot the Dustdevils, 21-8 and had 14 shots on goal compared to five for TAMU-International.

The Hilltoppers will be back in action Thursday when they host Newman. Kickoff is set for noon at Lewis-Chen Family Field. Live stats and video will be available on the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
