Hilltoppers complete road sweep of UT-Permian Basin with 10-1 victory

Box Score ODESSA, Texas – The St. Edward's baseball team took this weekend's series against UT-Permian Basin Sunday taking the third game, 10-1. St. Edward's (7-4, 5-3 HC) kept up its momentum from Saturday's wins over UT-Permian Basin (1-11, 1-8 HC) by taking an early lead scoring four runs in the first inning.

Adam Shank (Sugar Land, Texas/San Jacinto College) brought in Colin Elmore (Dallas, Texas/Richland College) off of a single through the right side collecting his first RBI of the game. Wes Koenig (Austin, Texas/Hill JC) sent a single to center field bringing Shank home. Marshall Burford (Austin, Texas/Temple JC) followed up with a sacrifice bunt to allow Ransom LaLonde (Tulsa, Okla./UT-San Antonio) to score. Rylan Patel (Colleyville, Texas/Colleyville Heritage HS) then reached on a fielding error sending Koenig home to score, taking an early lead 4-0.

The Hilltoppers struck again in the third inning when Patel hit a double to right field bringing in LaLonde, extending the score 5-0. In the fourth inning, Shank would collect another RBI off a single through the right side bringing in Nate Bobrowski (Jerome, Idaho/San Mateo JC), making the score, 6-0.

The Hilltoppers collected two more runs in the seventh inning when Elmore scored off of a wild pitch quickly followed by LaLonde who scored off of a fielding error by the Falcons shortstop, extending the lead to 8-0. In the eighth St. Edward's would collect two more runs. LaLonde would hit a single to right center field advancing Shank to third. The Falcons then allowed LaLonde to advance on a passed ball giving Shank time to score. LaLonde was brought in by Koenig who singled through the right side.

With the score now 10-0, the Falcons would not give up and prevented a shut out in the bottom of the eighth by scoring a run when Hugo Hernandez singled up the middle giving Ryan Head a chance to score. The game would end 10-1. Leaders for the Hilltoppers were Shank and Koenig who both collected two RBI each, followed by Burford and Patel who each had one. Jeff Rohrbach (Houston, Texas/Bellaire HS) collected the win for the Hilltoppers pitching seven innings allowing only two hits and no earned runs.

St. Edward's will be back in action Friday as they take on rival St. Mary's for a three game series that will kick off with a double header at 12:00 p.m.
