Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The St. Edward's baseball could not make an early lead hold up against TAMU-Kingsville, Tuesday evening, falling 5-3 at Nolan Ryan Field. In the first two innings both pitchers prevented any hits. It would not be until the top of the fourth when St. Edward's (1-2) struck gold.
Nate Brobrowski (Jerome, Idaho/San Mateo JC) would hit a single to center field. He would then advance to third after a groundout by Adam Shank (Sugar Land, Texas/San Jacinto JC) and a single to right field by Daniel Homann (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands HS). Ransom LaLonde (Tulsa Okla./UT-San Antonio) would drive in a run with a squeeze bunt to the pitcher. Marshall Burford (Austin, Texas/Temple JC) followed up with a two-run home run to put the Hilltoppers up 3-0. TAMU-Kingsville (1-0) would not score until the bottom of the fifth when Cameron Dullnig would hit a single down the right field line driving in two runs making the score 3-2.
The next opportunity for St. Edward's came in the seventh inning when Homann and LaLonde both drew a walk, but the Hilltoppers could not capitalize. The Javelinas would score two more runs in the bottom of the seventh off of a double down the right field line and a throwing error, making the score, 4-3 in favor of the Javelinas. TAMU-Kingsville would score again in the eighth inning off of a steal, a passed ball and a wild pitch.
The game would end, 5-3. Jeff Rohrbach (Houston, Texas/Bellaire HS) started the game for the Hilltoppers and was fantastic. The righthander allowed on one hit and struck out four batters in 4.0 scoreless innings fo action. St. Edward's will be back in action this weekend as they host Newman for a three-game series.
The series will kick off Friday with a doubleheader beginning at noon. The series will conclude on Saturday with a single game at 11 a.m. All games will have live video, audio and stats brought to you by the Hilltopper Athletic Website.
